"The Shipwreck Files"

discoveryblogbell.jpg

Discovery Channel's venture with Odyssey Marine is starting to produce program trailers.
This year, while the TV crew was filming OME's expedition, they discovered and recovered a bell from an unidentified shipwreck site. Hoping that it would help identify the wreck the crew's excitement was short-lived. The inscription was barely legible and only certain parts could be deciphered. The onboard archaeology team could see the date 1744 and what appeared to be the following letters and indecipherable letters/spaces:

------M • ISES DE DOH/MI ------ AP DEL-I FE------

Hopes for a quick ID turned into a lengthy reverse research and conservation project.
